The Mayfair Hotel – The Premier Accommodation choice in Mthatha

The MAYFAIR HOTEL at BT Ngebs Mall is a new 3 star business hotel aimed at attracting patronage from the discerning business and governmental traveler who frequent the area. Mthatha historically has experienced great pressure on its supply of local accommodation with many travelers having to travel to neighboring towns and cities to secure lodging. The Mayfair is therefore intended to ease this pressure and is anticipating to thrive once opened in early 2017.

The hotel itself is located within the confines of the brand new BT Ngebs Mall that opened during 2015. It’s proximity to the mall means that it enjoys a prominent location within the central city area and has fantastic links to local amenities. With the Mayfair being so close to the Mall, customers will be able to enjoy varied dining and retail experiences within walking distance of their “front door”. Trips to and from the airport can comfortably be completed within 20-30 minutes, making access for patrons from out of town simple and reliable.

A large triple volume reception welcomes visitors to the hotel and provides a glimpse of the style and elegance that will be on offer throughout the hotel. Flowing from the reception area, one will find modern yet welcoming dining and lounging facilities that will serve not only guests, but their visitors as well. It is envisaged that many business meetings will take place in the warm and comfortable accommodation that the hotel offers.

For those staying at the hotel, there will be a choice from 88 Standard Rooms, 2 Executive Rooms, 1 Presidential Suite and 1 Luxurious Penthouse. An Executive Dining Room is provided adjacent to the presidential and executive rooms for those guests seeking a little extra privacy and convenience.

The facilities within the rooms will include all the expected modern amenities including air conditioning, mini bar, flat screen HD TV’s and Wi-Fi. The rooms will be fitted out in an inviting pallet of materials that help to ease away the stresses of busy traveling days. A modern aesthetic will also provide a sense of luxury not expected of a standard business hotel. In this way, the Mayfair will punch above its weight and draw in a new a diverse customer base.

2 large boardrooms will be available for reservation by guests to conduct their business at the hotel. These will also be able to connect to one another providing a venue for weddings and large business gatherings of up to 120 people. Pre-function space and a large external terrace provide break out space for those waiting to meet or wanting a break.

The Mayfair may be a 3 star business hotel, but the attention to design and detailing will ensure that guests are pleasantly surprised and expectations of service and accommodation are continually exceeded.

Mthatha’s R1.4bn BT Ngebs City officially opens

Sisa Ngebulana, CEO of Billion Group ribbon cutting with the EC Premier Phumullo Masualle, official opening of the 60,000m² BT Ngebs City in Mthatha.

BT Ngebs City, the newest regional shopping mall in the Eastern Cape Province town of Mthatha, officially commenced trading today.

Billion Group founder and property entrepreneur, Sisa Ngebulana this morning officially opened Mthatha’s 60,000m² BT Ngebs City – a development inspired by his entrepreneurial grandfather.

The mall boasts over 150 tenants, a number of which are retail firsts for the former homeland, signalling growing investor confidence in the region, said Ngebulana. BT Ngebs City signals the largest ever retail offering for the former Transkei.

“A comprehensive mix of tenants, including retail, fashion, banking, homeware, health, sports and entertainment, will ensure this development caters to all 478 000 households in the catchment area,” Ngebulana said.

Retail firsts to the former homeland include brands such as Timberland, Fabiani, GSTAR, Spitz, Kurt Geiger, Soviet, Earth Child, Bogart and Keedo, to name a few.

“BT Ngebs City forms part of Billion Group’s R16 billion investment earmarked for the Eastern Cape region over the next 10 years. During its construction phase, the R1.4 billion development has created approximately 4500 jobs. An additional 2 500 permanent positions will become available upon completion of the development.”

The goods and services procured during the build phase, as well as the construction jobs, came from the local community, he said.

The mall adds to the group’s already strong retail portfolio, and in the Eastern Cape joins Billion’s super-regional malls Hemingways in East London and Baywest in Port Elizabeth (Baywest is a joint-venture with Abacus Asset Management), as well as regional mall Mdantsane City in East London.

The group is also busy developing a shopping centre in Ngcobo, which is due to open in 2017, and owns Forest Hill, Sunny Park and Bloed Street in Pretoria. The group also has retail presence in Africa, namely in Nigeria and Tanzania, as well as in the UK.

“We have seen good growth with our malls, and especially with our Eastern Cape offerings,” said Ngebulana.

Market research had shown that the region was undersupplied by quality retail space to the tune of over 240,000m², said Ngebulana. He added that retailer demand for space at BT Ngebs City had been astounding, with 98% of the mall let.

Anchor Tenants at BT Ngebs City include some of South Africa’s largest retailers, such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Food Lovers Market, Clicks, Woolworths, Truworths, Foschini, and Edgars, among others.
Phase Two of the development is already underway and includes a 100-room four-star hotel, due to open next year, as well as 10,000m² of office space.

Ngebulana said the mall was inspired by his grandfather, Tandi “BT” Ngebulana, a legendary rugby player and local entrepreneur.

“BT was my mentor,” said Ngebulana, adding that the mall signalled Billion Group’s initial steps toward uplifting and developing the Mthatha region.

BT Ngebulana settled in Corhana, just 4km outside of Mthatha, in 1949 following an illustrious sporting career in rugby as captain of the East London-based Bush Bucks Rugby Football Club. He also rose to represent Border, as well as Western Province. His many successful businesses in the area were fundamental to the ongoing development of the community. These included a soap factory, taxi business, general dealership, and a brick-making yard.

Inspired by BT Ngebulana’s investment in the community, Billion Group is spending over R60 million on roads, bulk electricity, water, sewer, wetland systems and other infrastructure that will benefit the Mthatha community.

Sisa Ngebulana is also the CEO of Rebosis Property Fund Limited, established in 2010 which is black-managed and substantially black-held property fund to be listed on the JSE.

Mthatha, formerly Umtata, is the main town of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality in Eastern Cape.

Enigma Mansion on sale again, for a “bargain price” 66% discount

The Enigma Mansion -The lifestyle of the Great Gatsby – is South Africas most expensive residence ever built and resides on 7000 sqm of manicured park setting.

Welcome to Cape Town’s grandest and most palatial mansion, Enigma Mansion, which occupies more than 7000 m2 of the most prestigious residential area on the entire Atlantic seaboard. This extraordinary Mansion is located in a protected triangle between three streets in the heart of the Glen, a setting between Camps Bay and Clifton and is secluded and sheltered from the sometimes strong summer and seasonal winds. The property is just 50 metres away from the Table Mountain Park and adjoins a nature reserve on two other boundaries. It has its own little stream, 6000 m2 of park and gardens with waterways, ponds and unobstructed views of Cape Town’s famous landmarks: Lion’s Head, Table Mountain, The Twelve Apostles and The Atlantic Ocean. Enigma enjoys complete peace and quiet even though it is only three minutes away from the vibrant cafes and restaurants in Camps Bay and on Clifton Beaches.

Enigma Mansion, Camps Bay Villa, Cape Town

The largest properties in this stylish area of Cape Town are usually not more than 1000 m2, but this mansion stands gracefully on land far larger than any other residences. Four different stands have been purchased over the years and existing villas have been pulled down to be able to create this glorious space for the residence and its extensive gardens. The main residence extends over 1586 m2, (Basement 627 m2, Ground Floor 638 m2, First Floor 321 m2). The beauty of the mansion is surpassed only by the location of the entire property, gardens and views, which in all likelihood is the most spectacular on the entire South African coastline!

Enigma Mansion is the ultimate luxury, even 7-star hotels cannot compare when it comes to close attention to detail, where no expense were spared. Every single door handle, plates and even the hinges are gilded pieces of art hand-made in Argentina by the few craftsmen in the world who are able to replicate the exquisite door handles from the time of Louis XIV.

The hand printed wallpapers originate from Zuber in Paris, fabrics are from Carlucci or Designers Guild. Zuber is recognised internationally as the Rolls Royce of fabrics and wallpapers, and is the only company in the world still using hand-printing techniques, resulting in unique, exclusive and highly prized creations. All chandeliers and wall lamps are either antique or handmade pieces and each is one of a kind. The shades are truly works of art, creating an enchanted light across the residence, especially if combined with the light mood settings chosen via the iPad. The brick walls have been covered with an ancient Moroccan technique similar to Venetian stucco. Such beautiful, crafted work is rarely seen today. Visitors feel they are within, a hundred-year-old ancient marble walls, and it is hard to imagine these walls were only completed in 2012.

There are many original works of art throughout the residence, but the most rare, is the graceful statue in the west lobby on the ground floor – an extremely fine and beautiful classical white Carrara marble statue The Greek Slave by Scipione Tadolini (Rome, 1860), portraying a life-size figure of a female slave wearing a necklace inscribed in Greek ‘elpis’ (hope) and on her bracelet ‘istotes’ (fidelity), a turban headdress and drapery around one shoulder continuing across her back and loins and cascading over a pedestal under which are chains. This may well be the most beautiful piece of art of its kind. The carpets in the house are sublime Persian Tabriz acquired from Essie in London, considered the world’s leading carpet expert.

The 3D Cinema is another example of how effortless style, luxury and extreme comfort had been combined in one property. The columns in the lobbies and stair halls are imported from Indian palaces, the interior in the movie theatre originated from a Moroccan palace. Even the kitchen islands have been imported from France to achieve the quality and ambience only originals can deliver. Luxury combined with impeccable taste has created a one-of-a-kind property, which is unsurpassed in this part of the world.
